FG plans Voting during election for Nigerians In Diaspora

The Nigerian government is putting structure in place that will allow Nigerians in the Diaspora take part in future electoral processes.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar made the disclosure when he met with Nigerian Professionals in the Netherlands ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s participation at the Nigeria-Dutch Business and Investment Forum.

There have been agitation by Nigerians living in foreign countries to be considered for participation during elections in the country.

In a statement signed by the Special Assistant to the Minister on Media and Communications Strategy, Alkasim Abdulkadir, Tuggar assured the gathering of government exploring mechanisms for granting dual citizenship to Nigerians abroad.

The event provided a platform for fruitful discussions on matters affecting Nigerians in the Diaspora.

Ambassador Tuggar emphasized the importance of fostering strong ties between Nigeria and its diaspora communities worldwide.

The Minister highlighted the “Tinubu 4Ds” framework, which focuses on Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora as Central pillars for engaging with Nigerians abroad.

He noted that the administration of President Tinubu recognises the immense potential of the Nigerian diaspora in driving national development adding that the government is committed to creating enabling environments for diaspora investments and contributions to key sectors of the economy.

Ambassador Tuggar also said the government remains dedicated to upholding the dignity and rights of Nigerians living abroad.

In addition to discussing the Tinubu 4Ds framework, the engagement also focused on investment opportunities in Nigeria.
