The Federal Government has embarked on an education support programme, targeting to give about 50,000 indigent candidates of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB examination free registration.
The South East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA) at a flag-off of exercise in Onitsha, Anambra State, said 10,000 students from each of the South East States will benefit from the programme.
The Federal Government intervention programme is seen as a critical socur and relief at a time of harsh economic realities of the country.
The South East Renewed Hope Agenda is undertaking to pay the N8,500 cost of JAMB registration for a total of 50,000 candidates drawn from the five South East States of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo.
At the event to flag-off the exercise, the National Coordinator of SERHA, Belusochukwu Enwere said the initiative is designed to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians, while expanding access to tertiary education for indigent and academically qualified candidates in the region.
Enwere noted that the JAMB registration support programme aligns with the youth focused educational policies of President Bola Tinubu, which are aimed at promoting equal access to education and investment in human capital development of young Nigerians.
Some of the beneficiaries, while commending the initiative, described it as a timely exercise that would enable them pursue their academic aspirations with less financial stress on their parents and guardians.
ait.live Correspondent in Onitsha reports that the beneficiary JAMB candidates in their thousands were handed over a cash envelope by officials of the South East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA).
