The Federal Government of Nigeria has renamed the annual ‘Armed Forces Remembrance Day’ to Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
Director of Defence Information (DDI), Defence Headquarters, Major General Samaila Uba, who disclosed this urged media organizations to adopt the new designation – “Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day,” in all future coverage.
According to General Uba, the change was implemented to better reflect the dual purpose of the occasion.
The dual purposes, he said are are: celebrating the achievements of serving personnel while at the same time remembering those who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.

He expressed gratitude to the media for continued support in the nation’s efforts to combat insecurity and emphasized the importance of sustaining the collaboration.
The day is traditionally preceded by a week of activities across the country, culminating in a grand parade and wreath-laying ceremony on January 15.”
January 15 of every year is marked as Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day in Nigeria.
