The Federal Government has adopted a new strategy in its efforts to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, said the new approach will be achieved, through the Literacy-Economic Empowerment Scheme.

The minister said this in Kano while delivering starter packs to thirteen graduates of the scheme.

The 13 graduates who won competitions in different categories, including cosmetology, cooking, fashion designing and hair dressing were given items like industrial sewing machines, industrial weaving machines, embroidery machines, generators, deep freezers, hair salon kits and fashion designing equipment, to help them start up.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, represented by the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education,
Professor Simon Akpama said the strategy was structured to provide graduates with the basic and post-literacy programmes and with the relevant kits and starter packs to establish their businesses.

Items given to the beneficiaries will be closely monitored, for effective usage.

The beneficiaries are expected to leverage the training and equipment received to empower others too.
