The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Solid Minerals, has revoked 1,663 licences of defaulters, while warning illegal miners to desist from economic sabotage or face the wrath of the law.
At a press briefing held at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, the Minister Of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, said the revocation order became necessary, after exhausting administrative protocols, in the bid to ensure that the defaulting operators comply with licencing provisions.
He warned that the ministry is equally working on other policies, aimed at sanitising the activities of mining and clearing off violators who, by their actions, constitute obstacles to intending partners and investors.

Alake reiterated the commitment of the ministry towards enhancing the productivity of the sector, and ensuring that it becomes a major revenue base for Nigeria.
