An enforcement team of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services, NAQS has clamped down of illegal animal skin processing sites in Enugu State, South-East Nigeria.
The enforcement team led by the Director of Animal Quarantine, Akinjo Abiodun was at one of the illegal animal hide processing sites located at the New Heaven area of Enugu city run by a suspected Chinese operator who on sighting the officials took to his heels.
The enforcement team thereafter evacuated some of the processed animal hide and sealed off the warehouse. Abiodun says the enforcement exercise as mandated by the Agency’s Director-General, Vincent Isegbe was to prevent the consumption of animals with infectious diseases and to rid the country of illegal processing activities.

The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services says it is committed to eliminating all illegal processing of animal skin in order to provide quality assurance services that will provide safe, sustainable agricultural and aquatic products for local and international markets. It however wants all Nigerians to join in the fight against illegal processing of animal hides in the country.
