The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Muhammad Nanono has said there is need for massive investment in the wheat value chain to bridge production and consumption gap in the country.
Nanono said efforts to bridge the gap was sabotage by hoodlums who carted away stored seeds at the National Agricultural Seeds Council, in Bukuru Jos, Plateau State in the wake of #EndSARS protests.
The national wheat production is 420,000 metric tones, while the national consumption is 5.26 million metric tones.
The Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Nanono, who was represented by the Director, Extension Services, Kareem Babangida said the ministry is putting in place various measures to increase wheat production and productivity as well as reduce import bill.

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Nasiru Gawuna, who is also the State Commissioner for Agriculture, called for more attention to wheat production
The National President of the Wheat Farmers Association of Nigeria, Salim Mohammed, asked government to give wheat production the same attention it given to rice farming.
