Lagos residents will have to seek alternative routes to the Island as the Federal Government closes down the Third Mainland Bridge for the next three days.
The closure which takes effective from Midnight Friday became necessary to enable the contractors perform another round of replacing expansion joints along the Adekunle Ramp.
Federal Comptroller of Works in Lagos State, Popoola Olukayode in a chat with AIT said construction works had reached the stage to cast concrete on additional 3 expansion joints, hence the need to stop all movements on the bridge to avoid vibrations.
The 72 hour closure according to the comptroller is to allow the concrete sets properly during the curing process to make the rehabilitation works durable.

He said the repairs is going on progressively to ensure that the bridge is opened to traffic totally on or before February 15 as earlier promised.
The Federal Government in July 2020 announced the partial shutdown of the Third Mainland Bridge for a period of 6 months for rehabilitation works.
The project was however extended by one month due to the recent #EndSARS protests in Lagos thereby extending the completion date from January 2021 to February.
