FG Targets Six Thousand Megawatts Power Generation

Nigerian government has set a new target for itself in Power Generation before the end of 2024.

Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu says Power generation in the country will be raised from four thousand to six thousand megawatts.

The Minister of Power said this on Monday in Abuja during the Oversight visit of the Senate Committee on Power to the Federal ministry of Power and the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, Senator. Eyinnnaya Abaribe Led his colleagues to the Minister.

The committee members were on familiarization and oversight visit in line with section 80 and 81 of the Nigerian constitution.

Expectedly, the Poor state of the Nigeria power sector dominated discussions even as the Power Minister outlines some of the challenges affecting effective power generation in the country, Promising that key Members of the current Tinubu administration will roll up their sleeves to right the wrongs in the sector.

Members of the committee raised some critical questions relating to the poor state of the power sector.

Issues around the recent hike in Electricity Tarrif were shelved as the committee chairman revealed that a Public hearing has already been scheduled for the 29th of April to address the concerns trailing the Policy.

The Committee chairman in company of the Power Minister also inspected some projects before meeting members and Staff of the transmission company of Nigeria at a separate meeting.

At the meeting, The incessant Power grid Collapsed in the Country was the focus.

Nigeria has witnessed six power grid collapse in the year 2024, gas shortage for power generation and the vandalism of power infrastructure are said to be responsible for the recurrent incidents of grid collapse in the country according to the Transmission company Of Nigeria, TCN.

The reality today is that many Nigerians do not currently have access to as much power supply as they would want and what is currently accessible is not reliable.
