FG to inject 10 Million Gas Cylinders into Nigerian Homes

In a bid to ensure that Nigerians do away with the use of kerosene and firewood for cooking, the Federal Government says, it will inject 10 million gas cylinders free of charge into homes in the country, in the next year.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Domestic Gas, and President, Nigerian Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association, Dayo Adesina, said this in Katsina, during a one-day Liquefied Petroleum Gas sensitization and awareness campaign.

He added that the move will create more employment opportunities and increase the Internally Generated Revenue for the Federal Government.

The one-day Liquefied Petroleum Gas, LPG, Sensitization And Awareness Campaign, which brought together several players in the gas sector, traditional rulers and the state government have as its theme: Addressing Economic Challenges And Improving Livelihoods In Katsina State Through LPG Utilization.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Domestic Gas, who also doubles as the President, Nigerian LPG Association, Dayo Adesina, told the participants that, the Federal Government has concluded plans to inject 10 million gas cylinders into the country, which will be done in 12 pilot states and phases, by retrieving the unchecked or unqualified cylinders.

Adesina while adding that the essence of the injection of such several gas cylinders, is to disabuse the minds of Nigerians on the use of firewood and kerosene, which affect their health.

He also announced that in the coming months, the price of gas will drop drastically .

The Katsina State Government said it has keyed into the National Gas Expansion Programme, having been selected for the deployment of LPG Micro Distribution Centres, aimed at checkmating youth restiveness, as well as checking desert encroachment, with the provision of 20 plots of land for the project.

The 12 pilot states to witness the injection of the 10 million gas cylinders in the first phase across the country are Katsina, Lagos, Ogun, Bauchi, Gombe, Sokoto, FCT, Niger, Ebonyi, Enugu, Delta and Bayelsa States.
