President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige to meet with the organised labour on the state of the Nigerian economy and how the situation affects the people.
The Minister disclosed this to State House Correspondents on Friday, after briefing the President on the state of his Ministry’s affairs.
Ngige said that the meeting is expected to hold on Saturday September 12 in Abuja.
He explained that the President has approved to hold a larger government meeting with the organized private labour; including all government institutions that have to do with the finances of government to show them the books.
Ngige said that the recent hike in electricity tariff was done by the regulatory body based on certain realities confronting the sector.
On the planned strike by the tripartite unions of the non-academic staff unions of universities, the Minister said government is aware and had already called them to a meeting to address their grievances.
He said government will hold a special meeting with the unions who he advised to come clean with facts.
According to Ngige, the Accountant General of the Federation will join the government negotiation team to discuss and find out who is treating the other unfairly.
