The Federal Government is working towards raising the bar on environmental standards and procurement in Nigeria to position the country as a leader in sustainable development.
Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal at the inauguration of a Working Group for the project said the 5 -year programme funded by the World Bank will identify and close critical gaps in procurement, environmental, and social fields in the country.
Inadequate qualified professionals and lack of expertise in procurement, environmental management, and social standards, have over the years brought setback in sustainable environment practices across various sectors in Nigeria.
The need to bridge this gap and raise a stronger pool of professionals in these fields of environmental management necessitated this project.

Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal said the project’s goals aligns with President Tinubu’s vision for a more transparent procurement process that will raise the bar on environmental standards in the country
The 5-year project initially scheduled to end in 2024 has been extended to 2027 to recover lost time and setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, while also ensuring successful realization of the project’s goals.
