The Federal Government is planning to reduce the cost of CNG vehicle conversion kits by 50 percent for road transport union members.
The aim is to convert one million vehicles from gasoline to compressed natural gas by 2027.
This announcement was made by Michael Oluwagbemi, the Programme Director of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, during an engagement with stakeholders in Kaduna.
The meeting between the Presidential Committee on Compressed Natural Gas and industrial players in the northern region’s transport sector is essential for advancing the Federal Government’s initiative to transition from petrol-powered vehicles, to CNG-powered alternatives, especially buses.
They are focusing on buses, which are crucial to the nation’s public transportation system.
Oluwagbemi detailed the Federal Government’s plan to subsidise CNG vehicle conversion kits by 50 percent for road transport union members, and to acquire over 20,000 kits for the Conversion Incentive Programme.
Ibrahim Hamza conveyed Governor Uba Sani’s message, explaining the importance of cleaner and more affordable energy options for the public’s benefit.
The stakeholders endorsed the initiative, recognising its potential long-term environmental and economic advantages.
The Presidential Committee on CNG also expressed commitment to providing the necessary support and resources, to ensure the initiative’s successful implementation nationwide.
