FG to spend N532.7 Billion for conduct of digital census in 2023

The Federal Government, FG, has proposed a total sum of N532.7 for the conduct of a Digital National census expected to hold in April 2023.

The National Population commission had in their 2022 Budget , appropriated N187 Billion for National Census which the chairman of the commission says is inappropriate and has been used for trial census.

Chairman of the Commission ,Nasir Isa made the disclosure when he appeared before the Senate Committee on National Population and Identity Management to defend his agency ‘s 2023 budget.

According to chairman of the commission N532.7billion will be properly utilised to ensure the process is digitalized.

Nasir Isa added that the proposed sum for conduct of 2023 census, will cover post enumeration survey and that the exercise will be different from the past census conducted in the country.

He added that NPC is ready to re- write the history of census in Nigeria by ensuring that the 2023 census is accurate , credible , reliable and acceptable to all Nigerians.

In the 2023 budget proposal for the agency Nasir Kwarra says N1.05billion is earmarked for capital expenditure , N655million for overhead and N8.6billion for personnel .

For the 2022 fiscal year , the NPC boss says a total of N206.85billion was appropriated for the commission out which N107.7billion was earmarked for capital expenditure, N615million for overhead and N7.8billion for personnel cost.

The Chairman of the Committee , Senator Sahabi Ya’u ( APC Zamfara North) , asked the NPC boss to furnish the committee with details of projects executed with the 2022 appropriation and proposal for the 2023 fiscal year .
