The Federal Government says plans are on the way to turn the house and church of Scottish mother, Mary Slessor, into heritage sites.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Grace Gekpe, made this known in Calabar during the launch of Mary Slessor Foundation on Sunday.
Mohammed said the ministry will work with Cross River State Government and other public spirited individuals to turn Slessor’s house to National Tourist and Heritage center in a bid to bring her humanitarian works to the national recognition.
On their part, some of the great grandchildren of the late Sottish mother including Professor Offiong Ani, said their desire to launch the foundation was to continue touching lives in honour of Mary Slessor.
Mary Mitchel Slessor was a missionary woman who stopped the killing of twins in Nigeria, starting from Okonyong in Calabar, Cross River State.
