The Cross River State Government in partnership with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency and other health stakeholders, have launched a state-wide refresher training programme for frontline health workers to enhance their clinical skills and improve health outcomes.
The training held in Calabar is aimed at enhancing the clinical competencies of health workers and ultimately improving health outcomes across the State.
In his remarks, the Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk emphasised that the training was part of the State Government’s ongoing commitment in ensuring that the healthcare system remains responsive, efficient, and capable of meeting the health needs of the population, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

National Commissioner of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Adeniyi Ekisola, highlighted that the training was part of a national initiative being implemented across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Director-General of the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Vivian Mesembe, highlighted that the State Government’s commitment extended beyond just training, as substantial investments were being made to upgrade infrastructure across the health sector.
Some of the trainees expressed their appreciation over government’s initiative in organising the refresher training. However, they called for increased investment in manpower and infrastructure to further strengthen the healthcare sector across the state.
With continued focus on capacity building and infrastructure development, the state aims at creating more resilient and effective healthcare system and ensuring better health outcomes for all its citizens.
