FIBA World Cup Qualifier: D’Tigress lose to China

Nigeria’s women Basketball team, D’Tigress Wednesday lost to China 90-76 in their Group B opener of the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifier.

D’Tigress in their bid to secure a place in this year’s World Cup, departed the shores of Nigeria for Serbia on Monday with Home-based, Akaraiwe Ikem, coach Aderemi Adewunmi and Secretary General of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Adebisi Afolabi together with 11 foreign based players to make the 12 man team that will represent Nigeria at the qualifiers.

China took the first quarter 29-14, the second quarter 25-22, and the third quarter 25-16.

D’Tigress bounced back to take the third quarter 11 -24 but the margin was too large to overcome as China recorded an unassailable win.

Eleven players who made D’Tigress final list are: Nkem Akaraiwe, Musa Murjanatu, Adaora Elonu, Enabosi Nicole,Okonkwo Amy, Kunaiyi-Akpanah Pallas, Amukamara Promise, Chidom Oderah, Nyingifa Atonye, Ifunanya Ibekwe, Macaulay Victoria.

D’Tigress will aim to bounce back against France in their next qualification game scheduled for Friday, February 11, 2022.
