After almost two hours, the fire that engulfed the popular Eco-Fitness Hub in Gwarinpa, Abuja has been put out.
Fire fighters deployed over three water trucks before being able to contain the flames.
The incident happened at around 10 am Wednesday morning, a peak period for gym goers at the facility, which was opened barely a year ago.
The Eco-Fitness Hub, which attracts crowds of young people and fitness enthusiasts was designed with an open training courtyard and surrounded by three floors of different fitness rooms.
It was built with cargo containers and other recycled materials, and fitted with exotic training equipment worth hundreds of millions of naira.
An eye-witness told AIT Online that the fire began in the lounge (courtyard) of the gym and quickly spread to other parts of the facility.
However, the quick response of those who first noticed the fire ensured all in the facility escaped unhurt.
Fire fighters arrived about 25-minutes later and after almost two hours, the blaze was finally put out.
The cause of the fire is yet to be fully determined but there are suspicions it may have been caused by an electric spark.
