Fire has gutted part of the popular rice mill market in Wurukum within Makurdi metropolis of Benue State destroying properties worth millions of naira
The fire broke out in the early hours of Monday. Firefighters arrived quickly and were able to stop the fire from spreading to other shops
Some Traders who spoke to ait.live say although they immediately rushed to the scene they were unable to salvage any valuables and called for Government assistance.
The fire started at the rice mill located in Wurukum in Makurdi Benue State’s administrative capital spreading panic amongst traders.
The disaster was however limited to 2 shops at the Market after destroying about 6 milling machines as well as other valuables.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained the traders however ruled out electricity as the main cause since the market is yet to be connected to electricity.
