Barely days after a fire incident gutted the Great Nigeria Insurance Building and adjoining structures on Martins Street, Lagos Island, another fire has been recorded in Lagos, this time at the Arena Market in Oshodi.
The fire incident occurred at the used clothing, popularly known as okrika, section of the multi-billion-naira Arena Market, Oshodi, where several bales of clothes stored in containers were destroyed.
An AIT News crew visited the scene early Wednesday morning and recorded the aftermath of the fire before security operatives approached the crew and temporarily seized their recording device.

The equipment was later released after a visit to the security post.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke off camera, the fire started at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday and later spread to nearby areas, destroying bales of used clothing stored inside containers.

Firefighters from the Lagos State Fire Service, located close to the market, were eventually able to contain the blaze.
Sources at the market said one of the affected traders had recently imported container loads of used clothing, which were completely destroyed in the fire.
As of the time of filing this report, no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

The incident comes just days after a similar fire outbreak on Martins Street, Lagos Island, raising fresh concerns over fire safety, especially during the festive period.
