The Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, has confirmed that a minor fire incident occurred at one of its offices in Abuja on Saturday morning, following reports that circulated widely on social media.
The incident occurred at the FIRS office located at No. 15 Sokode Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, and initially raised public concern after online reports suggested the building was gutted by fire.
However, the agency clarified that the incident was minor and was quickly brought under control.
Speaking to AIT Correspondent, Lanre Babalola, the Special Adviser to the Executive Chairman of FIRS on Media, Dare Adekanmbi, explained that the fire was caused by a spark in one of the offices.
According to him, security personnel on duty promptly deployed fire extinguishers, containing the situation before officials of the FCT Fire Service arrived to fully put out the fire. He stressed that no casualties were recorded.

In a subsequent statement signed by Sikiru Akinola, Technical Assistant (Print Media) to the Executive Chairman, FIRS confirmed that the fire broke out on the fourth floor of the building.
The statement noted that the swift response by security personnel, the FCT Fire Service, and other emergency responders prevented the fire from spreading further.
While no lives were lost, the Service disclosed that some offices on the affected floor sustained damage. Preliminary findings point to a possible electrical fault, with a full investigation already underway.
FIRS says it is reviewing and strengthening its safety protocols to prevent a recurrence, assuring the public that the situation has been fully contained.
