Fire Razes Section Of Radio Nigeria, Ikoyi

A combined emergency responders from the Federal and Lagos state Fire Services have succesfully put off the fire which gutted a section of the federal radion corporation of nigeria Ikoyi,Lagos.

A visit by ait.live Crew to the scene of the fire incident thursday morning saw fire trucks and personnel from both service stations positioned in front of the burnt two storey building.

Some staff of the Radio station were seen in groups discussing the incident which will keep them off duty for now until an alternative is made for their work to continue.

One of the fire fighters explained that they got a distress call by 4pm wednesday and immediately rushed to rescue the situation, battling with the fire and finally prevented it from spreading to adjoining Voice of Nigeria, the external arm of Radio Nigeria.

No deaths were recorded but some injuries.The fire was said to have started from the Studio area and the cause of the fire may not be unconnected with a power sourge which eye witness says affected an air-conditioned before it exploded.

A staff of Radio Nigeria who spoke under condition of anonimity as he was not permitted to speak on the incident said a live programm was ongoing when an explosion was heard with fire burning the acoustic materials in the two studios and the adjoining master control room as well as other areas before the figher fighters brought the situation under control.

All staff of the Federal Radio station at Ikoyi have been summoned for an emergency meeting thursday morning.
