The Akwa Ibom State Government says, the Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, who is also the first indigenous Military Governor of the state, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga has died of complications from COVID-19.
He was said to have died at the state’s Infectious Diseases Treatment Centre, General Hospital, Ituk Mbang, where he had been receiving treatment.

A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Emmanuel Ekuwem, said that Governor Udom Emmanuel, was deeply saddened by the death of the elder statesman and had declared seven days of mourning, beginning from Saturday, December 26, 2020, with flags to be flown at half mast.
The statement stated that, Nkanga, who was the Director General of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Campaign Organization in 2015 and 2019, was also the Chairman of the state’s Airport Implementation Committee since 2007, and Chairman of the board of the state owned airline, Ibom Air.
