Five persons killed in head-on collision in Kogi State

A tragic road crash has claimed the lives of five persons, including three children, along the Lokoja-Ajaokuta highway in Kogi State, North-Central Nigeria.

The accident, which occurred near Gidan Bassa community, involved a head-on collision between a Toyota Avensis car and a Sino truck belonging to Dangote Cement Plc.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, the victims who died on the spot are two adults and three children comprising of two girls and one boy.

Twelve persons were involved in the crash, with seven others sustaining various degrees of injuries.

The injured victims were rushed to Ekpe Hospital in Ganaja and ASCO Hospital in Ajaokuta for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue of the Kogi State Specialist Hospital in Lokoja.

The FRSC attributed the cause of the crash to wrongful overtaking and has handed over the vehicles to the Ajaokuta Police Division for further investigation.
