Five Political Parties To Participate In Kwara State LGA Polls

Ahead of the Local Government election slated for Saturday 21st September 2024 in Kwara State, the Chairman of the State’s Independent Electoral Commission, Mohmamed Baba-Okanla has announced that five political parties will be participating in the polls.

Baba-Okanla who disclosed this on Thursday during the 43rd Media Parliament of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara Council in Ilorin the State capital, noted that the electoral body is fully prepared to conduct the Council polls, assuring residents of peaceful and transparent exercise.

The Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) chairman, Baba-Okanla while giving updates on the Commission’s level of preparations said about Seventeen political parties initially indicated interest in participating in the Local Council polls, but 12 later pulled out in what he ascribed to as reasons known only to them

The State Electoral Commission boss said over 21,000 applications were received for the ad-hoc vacancies for the LGA poll, with only 7,000 eventually considered

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Umar Mohammed has said the Corps has deployed 3,000 personnel for the council poll to compliment other sister security agencies.

The NSCDC Commandant advised parents to keep close watch on their children who are less than 18 years, to avoid going close to the voting centres.
