Flamingos Lose To Black Maidens On Penalties In WAFU U-17 Final

The Black Maidens of Ghana defeated the Flamingos of Nigeria to win the 2024 WAFU U-17 Girls final.

The WAFU U-17 final between the Flamingos of Nigeria and Black Maidens of Ghana was decided on penalties.

In a battle between two West African football giants, Getrude Amoafo gave the Black Maidens of Ghana the lead in the 14th minute.

Priscilla Mensah added a second in the 19th minute to the home crowd’s delight.

The Flamingos pulled one back in the 34th minute through Precious Oscar as the Black Maidens went on the half-time break with the lead.

In the second half, the Flamingos led by Bankole Olowookere push further up the pitch in search of an equalizer.

The breakthrough came in additional time as Harmony Chidi found the back of the net.

The match ended in a 2-2 draw and it proceeded to a penalty shoot-out.

Khadija was the only Nigerian to miss her kick while Ghana converted all from the spot to win on penalties and were crowned champions.

After the game, Harmony Chidi was voted Woman of the Match while Christiana Uzoma was the Goalkeeper of the Tournament,
