Flood Disaster: NEMA distributes food to victims in Zamfara

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has officially flagged off the distribution of farm inputs to 7,146 victims of the 2020 flood disaster, across the fourteen local government areas of Zamfara State.

The Coordinator of the Sokoto Operation of the agency, Aliyu Shehu, who performed the flag-off on behalf of the Director-General of NEMA, in Gusau, the state capital said, the farm inputs include, rice, maize, cowpea seeds, fertilizer as well as pesticides, among others.

They are meant to alleviate the hardship on the farmers, whose crops were affected by the 2020 flood in the state.

Zamfara State is one of the states that were worse hit by flood disasters during the 2020 rainy season, with almost all the fourteen local government areas of the state being adversely affected.

It is against this backdrop that the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, is distributing farm inputs to 7, 146 victims of the flood disaster, to help cushion the hardship being faced as a result of the incident.

The coordinator of the Sokoto Operation of the agency, Aliyu Shehu, who flagged off the distribution in Gusau, rolled out the items being distributed to the flood victims.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Fa’ika Ahmed, appreciate the efforts of the Federal Government in assisting the victims.

Some of the beneficiaries were delighted with the gesture and promised to make judicious use of them.

Among the farm inputs distributed to the flood victims in Zamfara State were 476 water Pumps, 4, 764 of 50Kg bags of fertilizers, 7, 146 pesticides, 11, 910 herbicides, 2, 382 50kg bags of rice, 2, 382 50kg bags of maize, 2, 382 50kg bags of cowpea seeds.
