Houses and properties destroyed by flooding in Zamfara State

At least 11 people have been killed and over 500 houses destroyed by a devastating flood in Gummi town, the headquarters of Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria.

The incident occurred as a result of a downpour that destroyed thousands of hectares of farmlands, while property worth billions of Naira were also lost.

Officials of Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency, ZEMA, have gone to the affected communities to assess the damage.

The cause of the flooding in Zamfara State can be attributed to the dumping of refuse and building of illegal structures on waterways, heavy rainfall and the absence of drainages in some communities and towns.
