Residents living along the Flood Prone Communities in Calabar, the Cross River State Capital have called on government and public-spirited individuals to come to their aid by providing alternative shelters or control the flood as rainfall intensifies in the State.
Those who spoke to ait.live in Calabar said their lives are in danger and cannot relocate without knowing what will become of them and their families.
Ikot Nkebre, Inyang Asang, CRUTECH and Akai Effa are some of the flood-prone areas within the Calàbar Metropolis where lives were lost to flash food in 2012 ,a situation that residents would not like to experience in 2020.
While assuring the people of the State of Government effort, the Commissioner for Environment, Mfon Bassey said the government is in partnership with NEWMAP and has commenced erosion and Flood control in some of the Communities.

Over forty large scale flood flash Sites can be found across the 18 Local Government Areas of Cross River State with the Riverine Communities of Agwu-Agune and Eniong Abatim in Biase and Odukpani Local Government Areas rated as life-threatening.
