Over one thousand local farmers from six local government areas in Bauchi State have been empowered with soft loans and improved varieties of wheat seedlings.
Representatives of the Flour Milling Association of Nigeria, FMAN, made this known during the Green Field Day Celebration in Bauchi – an event aimed at helping local farmers with requisite knowledge and techniques on how to cultivate wheat, and have a good yield at the end of the farming season.
The organisers said they are impressed with how local farmers in Nigeria are gradually keying into massive production of wheat catching up with other nations.

They say the cultivation of wheat in Bauchi has improved from three hundred hectares with about four hundred farmers in 2022, to seven hundred hectares harvested by over one thousand local farmers in 2023.
He identified the value chain of their products as a major challenge in Nigeria, despite its high demand in the international market.
With a global scarcity of wheat, due to forex challenges, farmers in Nigeria have in recent times been encouraged to intensify efforts in cultivation, to reduce importation, and create more value chains for indigenous producers.
