Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has declared his intention to contest for Nigeria’s Presidency in 2023, swelling the number of aspirants that want to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ibikunle made his declaration for the top job before his colleagues in the Senate chamber on Wednesday.

The Ogun State born lawmaker said he will bring his wealth of experience in both private and public life to galvanize the kind of credible and resourceful leadership Nigeria badly needs.

“My varied experience in private and public life has imbued me with requisite insights, experiences and network of relationships adequate to provide a leadership that will galvanize our dear country to achieve her manifest destiny as leader in Africa and of the black race”.

Amosun was a two-term Governor of Ogun State, serving between 2011 and 2019.

He had earlier served as Senator between 2003 and 2007.

Ibikunle’s declaration increases the number of aspirants under the All Progressives Congress (APC) to roughly 10. They include former Governor of Lagos, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo all from the Southwest. Others are former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, Former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, Governor of Cross Rivers State, Ben Ayade, his counterpart in Ebonyi, Dave Umahi, Minister of Transport, Rotimi Ameachi, Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige and Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajuba, setting the stage for a final showdown at the primaries next month.
