Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for concerted efforts to mitigate the various challenges facing the poultry industry.

Obasanjo who was speaking at the second poultry summit in Abuja via zoom, said poultry subsector has the potential to transform the nation’s economy if the right investment is channelled into it.

He underscored the need for right investment into the poultry industry and for Federal Government’s rapid support for the Poultry sub-sector.

Former president olusegun obasanjo narrated his visit to a poultry farm in Turkey where the farm produces one million eggs daily with only 25 workers. He stressed the need for the government and private sector to pay attention to the poultry industry given its enormous potential to provide job opportunities, food and nutrition security.

The national president, Poultry association of Nigeria, Sunday Ezeobiora, has however decried losses endured by the association due to the central bank Naira redesigned policy.

The minister of state for agriculture and food security, Sabi ABDULLAHI on his part said poultry production in Nigeria is a vehicle for wealth and job creation.

The summit with the theme, “Poultry Production, A Foundation for Food Security and National Development” was organized to evaluate the contribution of the sector to food and nutrition security and its economic impacts for the past 20 years.

Earlier, the Association inaugurated its national secretariat for a smooth and broader operation of the poultry industry.
