For the umpteenth time, Delta state government had told the Leadership of the striking Academic Staff Union of the Universities (ASUU) to focus on how to bring to an end the current shutdown of tertiary Institutions in the country and to desist from maligning governments to score cheap political gains.
Commissioner for Higher Education in Delta State, Prof. Patrick Muobaghare who made the stance of the government known in Asaba while reacting to some allegations levelled against the state government on some issues in the education sector by ASUU President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke described it as unfounded and uncharitable.
Addressing news conference Prof Muobaghare explained that the staff of Delta State University (DELSU) were enjoying a very robust pension Scheme outside the one endorsed by ASUU while the allegation that Delta state University Abraka, does not have a pension scheme Muobaghare described as a lie from the pit of hell
According to Muobaghare, DELSU pensioners receive their pensions immediately they retired while their gratuities are paid as soon as they are compiled and verified by the Ministry of Higher Education.
The Commissioner pointed out that no meaningful project of TETFUND could be found in DELSU as all the faculties and departmental projects were conceptualised, funded and executed by the state government. He also faulted ASUU President’s criticism of the state’s 3 New universities.
Prof. Muobaghare concludes that ASUU presidents has continued equating Delta with their travail but in reality it was not.
