A total of 250 players from 10 teams are participating in this year’s edition of the Anniversary Cup football competition in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State, North-Central Nigeria.
This third edition of the competition holding in Wannune, the headquarters of Tarka Local Government is dedicated to celebrating the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume who hails from the area.
The grassroot initiative which is attracting an unprecedented crowd of spectators is the only football tournament to be organised in the local government this year.
At the opening match, defending champions, Nativitas FC of Tarhembe defeated new comers, Creativity FC of Wannune one-nil. The second game of the tournament is between Uchi United FC of Uchi and Holy Boys FC of Sooyon.
The month-long competition will end on Friday, December 8 which is the day of the 27th anniversary of the creation of Tarka Local Government from the old Gboko Local Government.
