It’s a black Wednesday for the people of Foron District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, North-Central Nigeria, as they woke up to hear the news of the killing of their traditional ruler, Acting Gwom Rwei, Da Bulus Jang, following an invasion by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
The attack, which took place on Tuesday night, happened a few days after a journalist in the state published a report revealing plans by some herdsmen to attack farming communities in the state.
Two eyewitnesses, the Wife (Chungdung Bulus ) and Son (Moses Bulus) of the deceased told ait.live how their father was killed.
“We were inside when my father received a call, so he went outside to receive the call because of network problems inside.
“The next thing we heard was a loud cry from our father, we rushed outside to see what was happening, to our surprise, we saw suspected Fulani herdsmen attacking my dad with a machete and other weapons. Sighting me, they shot at me, so I had to run.
“And by the time I came out from my hiding, it was my dad’s lifeless body that was on the floor,” Moses said.
The late wife of the Monarch, Chungdung Bulus, also corroborated what the son said, stressing that they are still in shock at what happened.
Meanwhile, community leaders, on their part, are appealing for calm. They are also calling on the government to step up efforts towards ending the killings.
