Eighteen persons have been arrested in connection with last Sunday’s communal crisis in the Oju Local Government Area in Benue State, which led to the loss of four lives and the destruction of properties.

The suspects were paraded at the Police Command Headquarters in Makurdi, the state capital.

The Benue State Government is set to institute a judicial commission of inquiry into the crisis.

Two dominant communities of Oju Local Council, Ibilla and Oju who are at loggerheads, degenerated into killings and destruction of enormous proportion.

According to an eyewitness account, the crisis started when a Federal Government licence for a private university was secured by one of their illustrious sons, who moved to the site on the Ibilla part of the local council.

The youth believed to be from the Oju axis then stormed the area, which led to a crisis and total breakdown of law and order.

This attracted Deputy Governor Samuel Odeh to the affected communities, where he met with leaders of the area.

Back in Makurdi the state capital, the Police Command paraded suspects arrested in connection with the crisis.

The command noted that crime of any nature will not go unpunished.
