Nigeria Police Force says the arrest of the former African Action Congress, AAC Presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore followed revelations by suspects earlier detained over the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, told journalists in Abuja that the protesters, numbering 13, confessed that Sowore led them into a restricted area during their demonstration on Monday in violation of a subsisting court order.
CSP Hundeyin insists that it would be unfair to charge some people to court and leave out the person who led them to commit the offence. That is why Sowore was arrested, in the spirit of fairness and justice.
The Force PRO added that the Police acted strictly within the law and that due process will be followed in the ongoing investigation.
