Seven members of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF Board, whose tenure expired on January 31, 2026, are calling for strict adherence to the federation’s statutes in conducting fresh elections to usher in new leadership.
Colonel Sam Ahmedu (Rtd), speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, says the integrity of the NBBF must not be compromised by what he described as unconstitutional tenure elongation or governance irregularities, warning that the integrity of the Federation is at stake.
Among those raising concerns are former international Olumide Oyedeji, Professor Florence Adeyanju, and Technical Representative Scott Nnaji. They allege that the NBBF President, Musa Kida extended the board’s tenure without proper constitutional backing.
The group has now petitioned FIBA, calling for urgent intervention and urging the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Olympic Committee to step in.
Beyond tenure issues, they are also questioning the federation’s governance structure, including the alleged non-operation of an official NBBF bank account.
With petitions filed and allegations mounting, the battle for control of Nigerian basketball may now shift to the international stage.
The stakeholders insist that only a transparent, constitutionally compliant electoral process can restore credibility, stability, and confidence in the leadership of Nigerian basketball.
