Fresh revelations have emerged indicating that the rumoured defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf is being driven by key stakeholders of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP across the 44 local government areas, who are reportedly urging the him to align with the All Progressives Congress at centre.

In an exclusive interview with our AIT.live, State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, disclosed that the stakeholders believe aligning with the ruling party at the centre would largely benefit Kano State.

Speculation over the possible defection of Governor Yusuf, continues to gain momentum, with strong indications suggesting that the discussions are ongoing and intense.

Commissioner Waiya, says the agitation to join the APC is being championed by influential NNPP members who are reportedly seeking the opinion of both the Governor Abba Yusuf and the party’s national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to consider the move.

Waiya maintains that both Rabiu Kwankwaso and Governor Abba Yusuf are committed leaders who, according to him, place the overall interest of Kano State above personal or political considerations and may yield to the request.

Should the governor eventually defect, questions remain as to whether such a move would strain the long-standing relationship between him and his political mentor, Rabiu Kwankwaso. However, for now, there is no sign of tension in the state, contrary to speculations circulating on some media platforms.
