Following the resignation of former speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, his seat has been declared vacant by the current speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
This followed Gbajabiamila’s announcement of his resignation at plenary on Wednesday.

Gbajabiamila has been representing Surulere 1 Federal Constituency of Lagos state in the green chamber since 2003, and was re-elected for the 6th term until his appointment as chief of staff to President Bola Tinubu with the appointment letter dated 14 June.
