The Chief of Army staff, Leutenant General Tukur Buratai, has said that the Nigerian Army, has continously played it’s vital role in the provision of infrastructural and economic development, among the populace in the country since the end of civil war.

Buratai disclosed this at the official commissioning of the historical Kuta-Ikoyi- Ede Osun bridge and the Olowu of Kuta new palace hall on Monday, in Ayedire local government area of Osun State, South West Nigeria.

While explaining the rationale behind the construction project, executed by the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineering, the Chief of Army staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai said that the Nigerian Army is also professionally committed to combating insurgency, while taking into cognizance it’s corporate social responsibility, with a view to fostering unity, between the institution and the civilian population, as exemplied Ayedire Local government area of Osun state.

Speaking at the ceremony, Osun state governor,  Gboyega Oyetola and other traditional rulers, commended the chief of army staff and his men for the initiatives, stating that the deplorable condition of the narrow route has been a major security concern to the people of the affected communities.

The age long Kuta-Ikoyi-Ede road, has been of tremendous economic value to the agrarian population of the 3 communities for decades, with the aesthetic view provided by the flowing Osun river at the center of it.
