Human right activists have urged the Nigerian government to fulfill its promises on the war against gender based violence.
They want government to support NGOs and CSOS by empowering them to visit communities for sensitization and justice for victims.
The activists said this during a book launch ‘Tears from the grave’ and celebration of Keren Akpagher posthumous birthday in Abuja on Wednesday
It is estimated that 1 in 3 Nigerian women have suffered physical violence by age 15. Of recent, the number has increased due to insurgence in the north east leading to the early death of several women and girls. Other victims are in a state of Depression.

Seated in this hall are activists, survivors and relatives of victims of gender based violence to Continue conversation about SGBV, and to also Launch a book on SGBV and mark the posthumous birthday of a victim Keren Akpagher.
They noted that government has not fulfilled its promises in the fight against the menace.
The book ‘ Tears from the grave’ is aimed at drawing attention to sexual and gender based violence and stimulate actions to curtail the menace. The activists are of the opinion that if the book is made available to students in all categories, there would be more girls speaking up and speaking out.
