General Kokko emerges first Gung-Zaar in Bauchi State

First Gung-Zaar elect, Brigadier-General Marcus Kokko (Rtd)

Brigadier-General Marcus Kokko (Rtd) has emerged as winner of the keenly contested election for the position of the first Gung-Zaar of the Zaar Chiefdom, representing the Zaar ethnic group and other minority tribes in Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa Local Government Areas of Bauchi State.

According to a statement issued by the Bauchi State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and signed by the Information Officer, Khadija Kobi, the ministry received seven applications, all screened and cleared for the contest in line with the provisions of the Bauchi State Chieftancy Law 2025.

The election according to Khadija was conducted following a public notice inviting expressions of interest from qualified candidates.

The statement further revealed that out of the seven contenders, three candidates withdrew prior to the election, leaving four candidates to participate in the final contest.

At the end of the process, Brigadier-General Marcus Kokko (Rtd) emerged victorious. He will be presented to the Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed for approval and formal appointment as the first Gung-Zaar of Zaar Chiefdom.
