The Global Affairs Canada through UNICEF Nigeria, is set to intervene in the area of malnutrition in Bauchi State.

It is donating 15 million Canadian dollars to three states, including Bauchi, Kaduna and Kebbi.

This was disclosed during an engagement meeting, initiated on improving the health and nutrition status of women, adolescents and children in Bauchi State.

Bauchi, Kaduna and Kebbi states are identified as the worst hit with cases of mortality, as a result of a high rate of malnutrition.

The intervention will last for a period of five years in each of the states

The major stakeholders held a meeting on the implementation process of the initiative.

According to the representative of the Unicef Abuja Office, Fatima Cheshi, they will ensure a strict implementation of the five-year project.

The Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board, Rilwanu Mohammed, admits that the state has a high mortality rate due to poor nutrition.

According to Health Specialist, Fatima Cheshi, at the Unicef Office Abuja, the initiative is for the three states to focus on improving health outcomes among adolescent women of reproductive age, around sexual and reproductive health and nutrition.

For Unicef, the adolescent groups are neglected, and with the intervention, they are going to have access to service delivery for the period of five years in the three identified states.
