Goldsmith Arrested For Allegedly Vandalising Aluminium Cables In Niger State

The Police in Niger state have arrested a 27-year-old goldsmith Aliyu Kira with 100 cuts-to-size aluminium cables along Kwimo-Gulbin Boka road while on night patrol at Mariga Local Government Area of the state.

CAPTION: The incident occurred on March 6 at about 2o’clock in the morning when police operatives of Gulbin-Boka outstation, under Bangi Division, sighted the suspect, who was disguised as a scavenger and was said to have been intercepted on a motorcycle after refusing to halt for the operatives.

Spokesman of the police, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, said following the development, other teams ahead were alerted, and he was forcefully arrested at the other point.

During the search, a sack bag was found in his possession cointaining electrical cables that were vandalized, cut to size and carefully concealed in the sack bag to evade security posts.

Other items include twelve kettles, one carton of chocolate, six packets of chewing gum, and a hack-saw used to disguise as a scavenger.

The suspect, who is a goldsmith confessed that he vandalized the items to produce aluminum pots for his business.

The suspect has been transferred to the Police Headquarters, Minna for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
