The opposition Peoples Democratic Party in Gombe State is facing threats of a lawsuit as four major governorship aspirants say they are taking the party to court.
They claim they were unjustly excluded from the recent primary election.
That exercise produced the former Minister of Communications, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, as the party’s governorship candidate.
The aggrieved aspirants Abdulkadir Saleh, Khamisu Mailantarki and Monica Kalth, argue that the party denied them their right to participate.
Their grouse was triggered by the recent announcement of the PDP governorship flagbearer in Gombe State which have caused anger among party loyalists.
The party high command handed the ticket to Professor Isa Ali Pantami who recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress, where he had also vied for the governorship ticket just days prior.
The state PDP leadership maintains that Professor Pantami won the primary election as the sole cleared candidate. However, this justification has been rejected by the other four contestants.
The aspirants who claim to exclusion argue that this move bypasses democratic norms and are warning that it could set a dangerous precedent for a party trying to regain its dominant position in Gombe politics.
