Gombe Tanker Drivers Want State Govt. To Intervene In Rift With Lafarge

The Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owners Ashaka Branch in Gombe, have called on the state government to intervene in the crisis between the association and a prominent cement manufacturer lafarge cement over the cost of transportation of goods now affecting the economy of people in the area.

The members cited the high cost of petroleum which is affecting the cost of haulage.

But the cement manufacturing company stated that they are also affected by the economic crunch while outlining its contribution to the community.

The drivers are also calling on the state government to look into the state of the roads leading to the company

But the company insists that it has always worked for the best interest of the community and the state stressing that the allegation of the tanker drivers is misguided.

Though there are unconfirmed reports on efforts to settle the differences, the effect of the umpass may have tough consequences on the people of ashaka community whose means of livelihood is dependent on the survival of a symbiotic relationship between the tanker drivers and the company.
