As Christians across the world commemorate Good Friday, marking the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ for the salvation of mankind, Christian leaders in Owerri, the Imo State capital, are calling on Nigerians to reflect on the essence of the season by promoting national unity, peace, and tolerance.
A visit by AIT crew to some churches, including the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of Our Lord and Assumpta Cathedral, revealed a solemn and reflective atmosphere as worshippers gathered in large numbers to observe the day in prayers and meditation on the suffering and death of Jesus Christ at Calvary.
Delivering his sermon, the Bishop of the Cathedral Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Chukwuma Oparah, dwelt on the significance of Christ’s suffering, crucifixion, and ultimate sacrifice for humanity.

He described Good Friday as a moment for deep reflection, urging Christians and indeed all Nigerians to embrace the virtues of sacrifice, humility, and tolerance in their daily lives.
The cleric further called on individuals and groups whose actions threaten the peaceful coexistence of the nation to reconsider their ways and work towards fostering unity and harmony.
Good Friday is observed by Christians worldwide as a day of sober reflection, marking the climax of the Lenten season, a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and penitence in the Christian calendar.
