Former president Goodluck Jonathan says the leadership style of former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon during the civil war was based on peace and unity of Nigeria.
Former President Jonathan said this at General Gowon’s 90th birthday thanksgiving service in Abuja.
Past and present Nigerian leaders, including Jonathan, Yemi Osinbajo, the first lady Remi Tinubu who represented the president at the thanksgiving service, extolled the former head of state for his style of leadership during the civil war.

While dedicating his achievement to God and the people of Nigeria, Gowon says there was no winner or loser during the 3-year civil war.
Gowon who led the military government during the Civil War, is known for his famous “no victor, no vanquished” speech at the end of the war to promote healing and reconciliation.
