Gov Alia Inaugurates SUBEB Projects, Pledges To Make Public Schools Attractive

The government in Benue State Government has pledged commitment to the holistic development of basic level education and its public schools which it says will become alot more attractive than the privately owned schools.

State Governor, Hyacinth Alia made this know while performing the inauguration of a multi-purpose hall, the transparent automated payroll system as well as the flagging off of the construction of thirteen classroom storey buildings in Makurdi, the State capital.

After about one year of reforms in the Basic education system in the State, the programme has come under review by education stakeholders led by the the Chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board, Grace Adagba, her counterparts from Nasarawa State and the FCT, and members of the State Executive Council, who were thrilled by pupils during debate sessions from select schools.

Even the debate topic: Are public schools better positioned for students than private schools, was good enough to stimulate call for government response.

The authorities have listed among other reforms achieved in the last year to include; the complete remodelling of the Board’s headquarters, the automation of teachers payroll and the construction of new public schools which were commissioned by the Governor, who was represented by his deputy, Sam Ode.

Teachers training and the deployment of technology in the delivery of classes in public schools are strategic reforms in the Basic education sector which has improved performances of pupils in the last one year.
